A Decade of Success at Thurrock College
1 July 2025
Last week, Thurrock College, part of the South Essex College Group, proudly celebrated a decade of educational excellence with a fantastic anniversary event.
KSS designed the award-winning Thurrock building and Director Lee Nightingale was invited to the event to help mark the milestone celebration.
Since its official opening in 2015 by His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward, the college has made an impressive impact on the local community. In the past ten years, Thurrock College has awarded over 24,000 qualifications, welcomed 14,800 students and delivered more than 631,000 timetabled hours of learning.
The anniversary celebrations began with the official launch of Estuary Studios, the college’s brand-new, state-of-the-art music facility. The ribbon was cut by the Mayor of Thurrock, Councillor Sue Shinnick, who praised the development:
The college hosted a festival-style extravaganza, welcoming students, graduates, families and residents. The celebration featured community stalls, a mini golf course and an array of family-friendly activities and surprises throughout the day.
Lee commented: “It is clear how well the building works and it looks as good as it did when the ribbon was cut on opening. It was great to visit Estuary Studios and see how the building has been adapted to cater for the ‘active’ space. It demonstrates true endeavour and passion.”
