No.1 Court, Wimbledon
LondonProject Details
Our appointment by The All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) covered a full range of architectural and design services for the redevelopment of No.1 Court at Wimbledon.
The scope of work included the design and delivery of 15 new hospitality premium suites, debenture area upgrades and redevelopment of the former Court 19 into an external food-court and courtyard providing increased external food, beverage offers and upgraded landscaped public facilities.
The new retractable roof covering both the playing arena and spectator seating, provides uninterrupted championship tournament play as well as the opportunity for extended evening play during poor light conditions, with a new perimeter fixed roof enclosing the complex mechanical services required to achieve optimum environmental playing conditions.
The use of contemporary and innovative cladding materials to the external façade and roof designs, together with modern construction methodologies respects Wimbledon’s unique heritage and tradition whilst delivering our vision within the Club’s concept of tennis in an English garden.
The award-winning facilities further enhance the quality of the spectator experience, thereby supporting AELTC’s aim of maintaining Wimbledon’s status as the premier Grand Slam event in world tennis.
