Reflections on my placement year

As I approach the end of my placement year at KSS, I realise how much I have learnt over the past 12 months and how my experience has been invaluable to complete my Interior Architecture and Design degree at Nottingham Trent University.

I am grateful that I have been given an opportunity to gain an insight into the industry, working with talented individuals within a fast-paced, award winning architecture and design practice.  Working on a range of exciting projects everyday has meant I have gained new skills, confidence and seen first-hand how real-life projects are managed at every stage; which is really important as it’s something you don’t get to fully understand whilst studying.

One of the highlights of my year at KSS was creating the design illustration to represent my teams ‘If Only’ feature which has been published in this month’s issue of FX magazine on unlocking the true potential of our brain and controlling everything we do through our thoughts.

Across my year, I have worked on a variety of projects including Liverpool FC Main Stand Expansion, Wimbledon No.1 Court, National Indoor Arena, Twickenham Stadium, Chelsea FC, Wembley Stadium Hospitality and the KSS 25 Years office design.

KSS has an exceptional work ethic, but also a great social side too with a number of events throughout the year including regular Friday night talks. I have also attended many product launch events hosted by suppliers which have been really enjoyable. Every design show and event has been inspiring which will definitely help me in my final year at University and in my future career.

Another highlight was attending the Mixology Awards last month which was a fantastic experience to celebrate the best in the creative industry.

I would like to take this time to thank my team and everyone at KSS who have made my experience unforgettable, helping me learn new skills and providing an incredible insight into the industry. It has been a pleasure to be part of such a great team.
