Great Fosters Hotel Projects Complete

Last month saw the completion of our Coach House extension at the Great Fosters Hotel, our latest of two distinct projects completed on this Tudor estate in the heart of Surrey.

The Coach House now provides six superior guest suites and staff facilities over two-storeys, set within the curtilage of several historical listings. This included the principal Grade I listed building dating back to 1550 and the Grade II* listed gardens of the Arts and Crafts movement, resulting in a sympathetic design and appropriate material selection for the new build extension.

The Dower House refurbishment, which launched in the summer of 2021, converted a sixteenth-century Grade II listed staff accommodation building into seven luxury guest suites over two-storeys. A careful balance was taken between repurposing the building to offer functional spaces suitable for its new users, improving the performance of the building, and preserving the historic nuances, such as low beams and undulating walls. Safeguarding the building’s unique history through sensitive detailing was crucial in the design process and was realised through a pragmatic approach of minimising demolition and repairing the old. Our completed design is an example of the positive impact achieved through investment in historic buildings to extend their lifespan and offer a new purpose for many years.

These enhancements to the Great Fosters estate are the latest work we have completed for our longstanding client the Alexander Hotel Collection, following the new Cedar Lodge detached annexe which opened in 2014, and the refurbishment of the original Alexander House Hotel in 2006.
