Grand opening of Performing Arts Centre
8 July 2015
Last month, the new Performing Arts Centre at Feltonfleet School celebrated its grand opening in the bright Surrey sunshine.
The new Performing Arts Centre is contemporary and progressive linking to the original listed building via an impressive glass corridor which houses the main reception. The new building also has retractable seating and advanced sound and light systems offering a fresh new face to the school. The initial design up to planning was completed by Walters & Cohen Architects. All detailed coordination and interior layout was completed by KSS enhancing the acoustic performance of the Centre whilst adhering to the usability requirements of the school.
The architectural detailing and language of the Performing Arts Centre does not seek to imitate the existing building, but provides an innovative response using modern materials that respect and contrast with the listed building. The minimal frame and expansive glazing creates a level of transparency from the garden into the building. The relationship between the internal and external areas have been reinforced with the Performing Arts Centre becoming a backdrop for the garden and the setting of the listed building.
Giles Ashbee, Governor at Feltonfleet School said “We are delighted with the final design of the Performing Arts Centre which we feel showcases KSS’ great depth and knowledge of the education sector”.
