Planning approval for Castle Community College
22 January 2016
KSS are proud to announce that we recently achieved full planning permission for Castle Community College in Deal, Kent.
This is the first significant new build secondary school within the Priority Schools Building Programme with Kier Southern for the Education Funding Agency in Kent.
Castle Community College will provide a 1000 place secondary school for 11-16 year old students and 300 places for post 16 year old students. Specialising in Sports and the Performing Arts the new school will provide indoor sports facilities to comprise a four-court multi-purpose sports hall, dance studio and fitness suite which will also be available for community use.
Our designs adopt a simple rectangular plan form with classrooms arranged equally over three floors, with the central plan area consisting of an atrium above the dining hall and a double height space above the main performance hall. With a highly efficient envelope to floor plan ratio the new school provides a strong sense of enclosure balancing light space and visual stimulation creating an environment which is both inspirational and harmonious.
Castle Community College will bring together two schools and two communities on the same site delivering high quality teaching and learning in a new school environment with accommodation fit for the 21st Century. Our designs reflect its status as a landmark in the community providing a sustainable learning space that will create the perfect platform for the younger generation of Kent.
