Official opening of Camulos Academy
16 December 2016
This month, Camulos Academy in north Colchester opened its doors to new students.
Camulos Academy is a 420 pupil, two form entry primary school commissioned by Essex County Council catering for the increased demand for school places amongst local residents.
The name of the Academy is a nod to Colchester’s history where Camulos was a Celtic war god from whose name derived from Camulodunom, the historic name of Colchester.
Our designs are modern and lively with massing directly reflecting the basic function of the spaces within the school. Timber cladding denotes assembly spaces; white render denotes teaching spaces and bright coloured rendered incisions and massing highlight principal points of entry. Coloured render is extended to the soffit of the cantilevered eaves to unify the design composition.
Within the state-of-the-art building and extensive grounds, the Academy offers a world of discovery and an engaging learning experience for all children.
